I started at the Post Office in 2016 as a City Carrier Assistant in Portland at the Rose City Park station. I became a shop steward in 2018, and made regular shortly after. In 2020 I was elected to Branch 82’s Board of Trustees, which I became the chair of in 2024. In my role as shop steward I’ve attended many trainings, including all four years of Region 2 Steward College.

I was first elected to the Oregon State Executive Board during a special mail-in election in 2021 that was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. I was re-elected to my position on the Executive Board in 2022 and elected as Treasurer in 2023. I was re-elected Treasurer in 2025. In my role as Treasurer I have attended National’s Branch Officer Training.

Assistant Secretary

Brandon McCabe

NALC Member since 2014.

It is my honor to work for our members to achieve the most respectful and dignified work environment possible. I am our State’s current Recording Secretary. I am our current Steward in Beaverton and have been fortunate enough  to have a lot of amazing training via NALC. A vision for our future is one where USPS looks at its craftspeople as assets and not liabilities. Together we can change our company’s culture and create a beneficial and prosperous future for all of our union siblings!

Chair

Valerie Castillo

I’ve been with the Post Office for going on 27 years. I started as a clerk in Lewiston, Idaho. After 2 years, I transferred to the Carrier side, joined the NALC and transferred to Salem, Oregon.

I was busy raising my kids and was a dues paying member, I attended a few meetings over the years. When my kids were leaving for College, I decided to start getting more involved and found that our Branch needed new leadership, so I ran for President with no prior experience or knowledge. I won by 20 votes and have been President of the Willamette Valley Branch 347 for the last 10 years. During my second year as president, there was an open position on the Executive Board of the Oregon State Association. President Ricky Horton at the time, asked me if I wanted to be involved. I said yes, as I was trying to learn all I could as fast as possible. I am still on the board and became the State Chair.  I have attended the many trainings of the NALC, including being a graduate of Leadership Academy, Class 27.

I am also a Congressional District Liaison and have been on a few Lobby trips. I enjoy being involved with the NALC and helping to fight for our rights and for our members!
